Jackie + Gordon Maiava engagement session shot by Me // Kahuku, HI
We started this shoot right at "golden hour." Golden hour is the "prime time" for photographers because the sun is going down and the lighting is nice and soft. In Hawaii golden hour is typically from 4:30pm - 5:30pm.
After taking shots in a secret spot with a big green field, we made our way down for some shots on the beach. I never know exactly how shoots are going to go. I know I have to get some wide shots, close-ups, and have some go-to poses. But 99% of the time, I tend to base it on the couple's personality and then I use the location were shooting to highlight that.
After shooting for a bit and getting all we needed on land, I asked the couple if they wanted to get wet and get more shots in the water and they said YES!! What happened next led to some of the best photos I have ever created.

We finished off this shoot in a big tide pool just enjoying the last bit of sun and each other's presence.
